We are passionate about music education!
Michael Kaplan, the principal teacher at The Guitar School, graduated from the University of the Witwatersrand’s Music School in 2008 with a BMus(Hons) and has been teaching guitar online and in person for over a decade. He also works as a performing musician and in live music production, but his passion really lies in music education.
After teaching hundreds of students, Michael founded The Guitar School motivated by his principle that everybody thinks and learns differently and has their own unique goals and musical desires. His goal is to understand the way in which you learn, helping you to reach your highest ability. Whether you are a beginner or have decades of experience, we make your musical ambitions the central priority.
Dr Jonathan Crossley, associate teacher at The Guitar School holds a PhD in digitally enabled performance, a Masters in jazz and a BMus(Hons) in classical guitar. He has taught privately, as well as at South African and UK universities in areas ranging from guitar performance to composition, production, electronic music, and improvisation. He has released 11 albums of his own diverse music in styles ranging from classical to jazz and experimental.
At The Guitar School Jonathan offers bespoke classes in jazz and non-idiomatic improvisation, advanced classical guitar, a short course in Ableton Live for guitarists, theory for guitarists and can even consult with you on your songs and compositions.
